In this expressive, mixed-media class, we’ll explore florals through an abstract lens—focusing less on realism and more on movement, color, and feeling. Using watercolor as our primary medium, we’ll build soft, flowing compositions that capture the essence of florals rather than their exact form.
A key part of this class is experimenting with texture. We’ll incorporate soft fibers and layered materials into the background to create a sense of depth and atmosphere, allowing the surface itself to become part of the artwork. You’ll learn how to balance these textures with fluid washes of color, creating pieces that feel both dynamic and cohesive.
We’ll also dive into intentional color choices—exploring how palettes can shift the mood of a piece, and how layering translucent washes can add richness without overworking the painting. The focus is on staying loose and responsive, letting each layer inform the next rather than planning every detail in advance.
