Studio Values
& Accessibility

At The Open Art Lab, our studio is guided by inclusivity, curiosity, and thoughtful creativity.

Our classes welcome participants of all ages and experience levels, creating a supportive environment where students can explore, experiment, and build confidence in their creative voice.

Our Studio Values

Inclusivity & Respect
We welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels. Differences are honored, and comparison or judgment has no place in our studio.

Curiosity & Exploration
Students are encouraged to try new techniques, experiment with ideas, and stay engaged with their creative process.

Process Over Perfection
Exploration, problem-solving, and engagement are valued above speed, productivity, or polished outcomes.

Thoughtful Creativity
We emphasize slowing down, observing, and working intentionally with materials. Creativity is approached with care and attention to experience, not just finished work.

Accessibility

Accessibility starts with open communication. Participants are encouraged to share needs or questions before class so we can consider accommodations whenever possible.

While we aim to be flexible, not all needs can be met in every group setting. Class structures, age ranges, and material guidelines are carefully designed to support a positive experience for everyone.

Framework for Creative Learning

The Open Art Lab provides a clear, professional framework for creative exploration. Classes have defined structures, age ranges, and material guidelines to ensure participants can engage fully and effectively.

This framework allows everyone—children and adults alike—to focus on their creative process, experiment with ideas, and build skills within a collaborative, respectful environment. It’s designed to support independence, confidence, and meaningful learning while maintaining a positive experience for the group as a whole.

Important: While our classes can be reflective and supportive, The Open Art Lab is not a clinical or therapeutic program and does not provide mental health or medical services.

Our Approach

We trust each participant to engage with art in their own way. There’s no single “right” outcome, and no need for comparison or competition.

Guidance is offered thoughtfully, but the creative process is ultimately in the hands of the student. We encourage experimentation, curiosity, and problem-solving while valuing the personal journey over finished results.

Supporting Young Artists

Our core values—inclusivity, respect, curiosity, and thoughtful creativity—apply to participants of all ages. For children, these values create a structured yet flexible environment where they can explore materials, try new techniques, and grow confidence in their creative voice.

What Children Experience:

  • Process-focused learning that emphasizes curiosity over outcomes

  • Guidance that balances structure and freedom

  • Respect for each child’s pace and comfort with materials

  • Opportunities to experiment, observe, and problem-solve visually

Children are encouraged to discover, explore, and engage with the creative process. Parents can feel confident that their child will develop confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong connection to creative expression.

Is This Space Right for You?

The Open Art Lab is for anyone who wants to make, explore, and experiment with art—without worrying about getting it “right.” It’s for people who enjoy trying new techniques, playing with materials, and learning through the process.

Children and adults alike will find a space that respects their pace, encourages curiosity, and celebrates creative risks.

If that sounds like your kind of place, you’re in the right studio to play, learn, and grow through the process of making art.
