In this expressive, process-focused class, we’ll explore the dynamic relationship between ink and watercolor by drawing directly with pen and bringing the work to life with fluid, intuitive color. Instead of planning every detail, we’ll lean into spontaneity—allowing lines to be imperfect, gestural, and full of character.
This class is centered around letting go of control and embracing a more natural creative flow. You’ll learn how to trust your hand, respond to the marks on the page, and build confidence through intentional looseness rather than precision. We’ll focus on seeing “mistakes” as part of the composition, and discovering how structure and freedom can work together beautifully.
Through guided exercises and a finished piece, students will practice balancing line work with watercolor washes, learning how to suggest form rather than define every detail. The result is artwork that feels alive, expressive, and uniquely personal—where drawing and painting meet in a way that feels intuitive and unforced.
