Join So Yeon Kim and guest instructor Jeon-Young, a traditional Korean Minhwa instructor, for a hands-on introduction to the beauty and symbolism of Minhwa, traditional Korean folk painting.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, students will create their own Korean fan featuring a peony, one of the most beloved motifs in Minhwa. Traditionally associated with prosperity, abundance, beauty, and good fortune, the peony offers a beautiful way to explore the color, symbolism, and decorative style of Korean folk painting.
Throughout the workshop, students will learn how to build color through layered brushwork, create soft gradations and depth, and use traditional-inspired painting techniques to bring the floral design to life. So Yeon and Jeon-Young will guide students step-by-step while sharing insight into the artistic traditions behind the piece.
No prior painting experience is needed, and all materials are provided. Students will leave the workshop with their own completed Korean fan painting to take home and enjoy.
